so long, sweet summer

this weekend, i took mike to one of my favorite places on earth... the vineyard. my mom invited us to join her and mike had never been before. i am completely serious when i say that the island holds about 80% of my life's memories, so it was about time we go for a little visit!

{that's me on the left, circa 1991}

we headed down on friday & our ferry ride was the most beautiful thing ever right at sunset.

my mom picked us up and we went into edgartown for dinner & to watch the fish getting weighed in for the bass and bluefish derby. these guys are fileting the fish that get 'donated' & i really don't know why we decided to watch them do that for so long (and 2 nights in a row?!?)

saturday morning, we started out looking for sea glass & shells in the clouds.

{love that picture of my mom}

turns out mike's really good at finding the world's tiniest pieces of blue & green sea glass.

my sister & her husband met us there and we headed up island.

we stopped at the farmers market...

and the candy store (obviously).

then we drove through a giant rain storm, and by the time we got to gay head, it was over. perfect timing!

and when we got to menemsha, it was like a whole new day...

i had some chowder and mike had a clam roll while we watched my little seagull friend. everyone hates seagulls, but i have a soft spot in my heart for them. and if you know me, you probably know i also have a spot for them on my body ;)

then we headed back to edgartown to meet up with my mom & my other sister and the kids at the lighthouse.

my sister took the cutest picture of my niece, marin, hugging me... she's the sweetest little baby ever.

then mike & i went off and shopped a bit and got drinks and sushi on the water before we headed down to south beach. it was so pretty on a quiet september afternoon. heaven, i tell you.

the rest of the night involved a delicious dinner and more fish gutting watching. and today was the saddest day because we had to come back.

coffee to go.

and a depressed ferry face :(

and now i feel like summer is officially over and it is sad. but i am so happy that mike loved the vineyard, because now i don't have to change the locks and pretend i don't know him anymore!

what did you guys do this weekend??

do you feel like summer is officially over, or do you stilll have one last hurrah??

is your life now officially owned by football?? oh god help me.

my forehead aches

i am not ashamed to admit that my favorite books are those that involve three simple things

  1. the beach (mostly nantucket, the vineyard, & the hamptons, really)
  2. loveable, flawed, slightly overweight main characters (jemima j, bridget jones)
  3. love & happy endings

and now that i think about it, that's pretty much how i like life in general...

i like to read and smile and not be stressed out, forever sad, or scarred for life.

sometimes, i step out of my happy little box and read something like the the hunger games and love it, obsess about it, and tell everyone on earth to read it too. so, the other day i decided to try it again with gone girl

i didn't read much about it before i got it on my kindle except that it was a highly rated psychological thriller. i think mike has been making me watch too much of the investigation discovery channel, aka 909, because for some reason i thought i would like a book like this.

holy sh*t. i dont know how my mom and grandma and all these innocent seeming people read books like this ALL OF THE TIME!! i just finished it and i have a forehead-ache that i am not sure will ever go away. also, i need a drink. and i feel really weird, like i am able to think like a more twisted, crazy person after reading this book. yikes. that is all.

have you read gone girl?? what did you think? do you feel crazier now, too???

what should i read next? i might just go to the kindle store and scroll down until i see the prettiest, happiest looking cover and go for it... any suggestions???

all i want to do is NOTHING

after the half, all i have wanted to do is NOTHING. so i guess it's a good thing that we're staying with mike's nana all week helping her out, because it means a lot of relaxing, watching "stories", being told to eat over and over and over again, and falling asleep during jeopardy ;)

i just neeeeeeded these m&m's after limping around the grocery store and they were soo good. small little packs like this make me feel like a little kid. and i love that.

and i probably haven't had a klondike bar in 13 years, but this one was delish. they will always remind me of my dad. and i love that too. ruby just loves anything that anyone is eating.

mike's really good at taking care of people, so i like to let him go ahead and be good at it.

i guess i have been doing a little bit more than just eating and letting people feed and fetch things for me. i got an etsy order from someone in new jersey and whipped that up real quick!!

first, i built the pallet, then painted it while mike ripped down a million year old grape vine...

and then i got to work while watching winning jeopardy.

the buyer had the sign made with the lyrics from her sister's wedding song... it had lots of words, but i think it came out really nicely. i would LOVE to get something like this as a gift, i don't know about you ;)

then we all needed to get out of the house, so we headed to the world's best dog park.

the pups were verrry happy to swim their little tails off. ruby's so brave with the water now, i love watching her just jump in on her own!

happy dogs.

i also went and visited my sister and the kiddos and brought the furry kids with me. shaggy man james is enjoying his last few lazy days of summer...

and isla was happy to boss the dogs around for awhile.

trust me, they didn't mind. they also didn't mind when she fed them approximately 400 goldfish crackers.

miss marin quickly became a fan of them too... and ruby practiced some serious self control that i didn't even know she had in her!

sleepy brutus even got a sweet snuggle or two.

i guess the dogs understand the deep desire to just want to lay on someone <3

really truly

i could really truly spend forever at the beach.

especially if my mom packed my beach lunch every day. gosh i love her.

and i would spend every night like this, hunting for "sea monies" aka sand dollars, with my most favorite people.

maybe i wish i could just go back to being four years old.

yep. that's my wish.

then i wouldn't have to worry about replacing my poor plants that drowned...

oh well, i guess these new babies will just make summer last a little longer over here, right?!

and this hair kinda says never-ending summer, don't ya think??!!

what are you guys doing to make summer last longer where you are??

also, check out the new item in my etsy shop!!

here's a little sneak peek for ya...
