so long, sweet summer
Sunday, September 16, 2012 at 5:24PM this weekend, i took mike to one of my favorite places on earth... the vineyard. my mom invited us to join her and mike had never been before. i am completely serious when i say that the island holds about 80% of my life's memories, so it was about time we go for a little visit!

{that's me on the left, circa 1991}
we headed down on friday & our ferry ride was the most beautiful thing ever right at sunset.
my mom picked us up and we went into edgartown for dinner & to watch the fish getting weighed in for the bass and bluefish derby. these guys are fileting the fish that get 'donated' & i really don't know why we decided to watch them do that for so long (and 2 nights in a row?!?)
saturday morning, we started out looking for sea glass & shells in the clouds.
{love that picture of my mom}
turns out mike's really good at finding the world's tiniest pieces of blue & green sea glass.
my sister & her husband met us there and we headed up island.
we stopped at the farmers market...
and the candy store (obviously).
then we drove through a giant rain storm, and by the time we got to gay head, it was over. perfect timing!
and when we got to menemsha, it was like a whole new day...
i had some chowder and mike had a clam roll while we watched my little seagull friend. everyone hates seagulls, but i have a soft spot in my heart for them. and if you know me, you probably know i also have a spot for them on my body ;)
then we headed back to edgartown to meet up with my mom & my other sister and the kids at the lighthouse.
my sister took the cutest picture of my niece, marin, hugging me... she's the sweetest little baby ever.
then mike & i went off and shopped a bit and got drinks and sushi on the water before we headed down to south beach. it was so pretty on a quiet september afternoon. heaven, i tell you.
the rest of the night involved a delicious dinner and more fish gutting watching. and today was the saddest day because we had to come back.
coffee to go.
and a depressed ferry face :(
and now i feel like summer is officially over and it is sad. but i am so happy that mike loved the vineyard, because now i don't have to change the locks and pretend i don't know him anymore!
what did you guys do this weekend??
do you feel like summer is officially over, or do you stilll have one last hurrah??
is your life now officially owned by football?? oh god help me.
